Philip G. Killey
Maj Gen Philip G. Killey was the first guard member to serve as Commander, 1st Air Force (1994–1998),[1] director of the Air National Guard from 1 November 1988 to 28 January 1994. [2] and the Adjutant General of the South Dakota National Guard. He has a Bachelors of science degree in economics and mathematics from Monmouth College, Monmouth, Illinois. General Killey received his commission in 1963 through Officer Training School, Lackland Air Force Base, Texas. He served a tour in Southeast Asia in 1967-1968 flying the F-4 with the 8th Tactical Fighter Wing at Ubon Royal Thai Air Force Base, Thailand. He left active duty in 1969 and joined the Air National Guard in 1970. He held various positions with the South Dakota Air National Guard before becoming adjutant general. He was recalled to active duty as director of the Air National Guard from 1988 until 1994. The general was the first Guardsman to serve as commander, 1st Air Force, Air Combat Command, and Continental United States North American Aerospace Defense Command Region, Tyndall Air Force Base, Florida from 1994 until 1998.
In 2009 several years after Maj. Gen. Killey retired the First Air Force memorialized him by naming the headquarters Homeland Operations complex the Killey Center.[3]
